China Baptist Park & Friends Camp Get Makeovers!
Oct 30, 2026
A healthy lake depends on what happens along its shoreline, especially in places where rainwater can carry soil and phosphorus into the water.
This year, CLA completed stormwater improvements at China Baptist Park and Friends Camp, two well-loved lakeside destinations.
China Baptist Park
We addressed ongoing shoreline erosion by stabilizing steep slopes and better managing foot traffic.
Enhancements included adding compacted bluestone gravel near the stairs, installing timber and log edging to stabilize banks and define planting areas, and introducing larger, mature shrubs to establish dense vegetation in vulnerable areas.
Existing shoreline rocks were also repositioned to help protect the toe of the slope. The memorial bench was relocated near the top of the stairs, preserving its beautiful lake views while directing visitors away from eroding areas and newly planted vegetation.
Together, these improvements help protect the shoreline, reduce runoff and sediment entering China Lake, and keep the park welcoming for everyone.
Friends Camp
Improvements addressed persistent wet areas, exposed soils, and erosion caused by heavy foot traffic.
A bog bridge was installed to provide stable access across a naturally wet area while allowing water to flow underneath, and rope railings were added to guide visitors along established pathways and protect sensitive drainage areas.
Erosion-control mulch was also applied to exposed soils near the dock and waterfront, with a designated mulched area established for seasonal dock storage.
Together, these enhancements help manage foot traffic, reduce erosion and runoff, and protect water quality while maintaining convenient waterfront access.
CLA also helped four other property owners complete erosion-control projects of their own.
We also distributed 50 Buffer Bundles to help property owners establish or strengthen vegetated shoreline buffers. These plantings do quiet but powerful work: they absorb runoff, trap sediment, and reduce the phosphorus entering China Lake.
